Kalas Liebfried (b. 1989 as Kaloyan Lyubomirov in Svishtov, Bulgaria), is a Munich-based artist, curator, and writer. From April 2025 he is the Artistic Director of Lothringer 13 Halle in Munich.

Liebfried’s artistic practice is grounded in the belief that multisensory approaches can contribute to social and political change. His work addresses the complexity of today’s overlapping crises through a combination of critical theory and artistic practice. Central to his approach is a collaborative process that invites active participation, involving both artists and audiences in shaping and realizing platform-based projects.

His diverse portfolio encompasses projects at esteemed institutions like Musée d’Art Moderne (Paris), National Gallery (Sofia), Lenbachhaus and Pinakothek der Moderne (Munich). Liebfried received awards such as the City of Munich Scholarship for Visual Arts and the Stiftung Kunstfonds project stipend. He is the founder of the parasitic publishing collective PARA, and co-founder of the award-winning art association NEBYULA / Rosa Stern Space e.V. The establishment of Fragments of Sonic Extinction (www.sonicextinction.net) – an ongoing interactive publishing platform and event series that addresses the current loss of natural sounds – created a growing global community of sound artists and educators. As an editor at 20 Seconds Magazine and a regular contributor to the mazine Positionen – Texte zur aktuellen Musik, Liebfried enhances his practice into the realms of long-form journalism.
Notably, his artistic work has resonated across global platforms, earning recognition from i.a. The Wire, BBC6, Deutschlandradio Kultur, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and Bomb Magazine. 

His latest publications include DEFRAGMENTATION (2025), 20(para)seconds (2023) and Amp Wall Monument Confrontation (2 LP, SVS Records, 2022).
